Ingredients

For the Apple Fries
  • 3 large Firm apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith) Peeled, cored, and cut into fry shapes
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
For the Coating
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon Melted coconut oil or butter

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Paring knife or apple slicer

Method

  1. Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and cutting them into fry-sized sticks. Place the apple sticks in a large bowl.
  2. Toss the apple sticks with the lemon juice. This helps prevent browning.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for the coating.
  4. Pour the melted coconut oil or butter over the apples and toss to coat them lightly. Then, sprinkle the sugar and spice mixture over the apples and toss again until they are evenly coated.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (about 190 degrees Celsius).
  6. Place the coated apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook these in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time, until the apples are tender and slightly caramelized.
  8. Serve the apple fries immediately. You can serve them plain or with a side of yogurt or caramel sauce for dipping.

Notes

If you prefer a softer fry, reduce the cooking time by a few minutes. For extra crispness, you can lightly spray the basket with cooking spray before adding the apples.
