Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 1 cup
Course: Sauce
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Sauce Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Milk Whole milk works best
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese Shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for about one minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  3. Whisk in the flour. Cook this mixture, stirring constantly, for one minute to cook out the raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth. Continue to cook, stirring often, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the shredded mozzarella cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Use this sauce immediately on your pizza dough.

Notes

If the sauce becomes too thick while cooling, you can thin it slightly by stirring in a teaspoon of milk or water until you reach your desired consistency.
