Method
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
Melt the butter
- Place butter in your baking dish
- Let it melt in the oven, then remove
Prepare the dough
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt
- Add buttermilk and stir gently until combined
Add fillings
- Fold in diced ham and shredded cheese
- Mix lightly (do not overmix)
Transfer dough
- Spread evenly into the buttered dish
- Dough will sit on top of melted butter
Score the dough
- Cut into 9 squares before baking
Bake
- Bake for 20–25 minutes
- Until golden brown with crispy edges
Cool slightly & serve
- Let rest for 5 minutes before cutting

- Do not overmix the dough to keep biscuits fluffy
- Use freshly shredded cheese for better melting
- Leftover ham works perfectly in this recipe
- You can substitute buttermilk with milk + lemon juice
