This recipe shows you how to make baked jalapeno poppers filled with cream cheese.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes
Servings: 12 poppers
Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Poppers
  • 12 Jalapeno peppers Medium size
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Softened
  • 1/2 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
For the Topping
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs Panko style preferred
  • 2 tbsp Melted butter

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Paring knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wear gloves to protect your hands. Slice the jalapeno peppers in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon or paring knife to carefully remove the seeds and white membranes from each half.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and salt. Mix until the filling is uniform.
  4. Spoon the cream cheese mixture evenly into the hollowed-out jalapeno halves. Mound the filling slightly.
  5. In a separate small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and melted butter until the crumbs are coated.
  6. Sprinkle the buttered breadcrumbs over the top of the cream cheese filling in each pepper half.
  7. Place the filled jalapenos on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

If you prefer a softer pepper, you can roast the empty jalapeno halves for 5 minutes before filling them. For extra flavor, you can mix one tablespoon of finely chopped cooked bacon into the cream cheese mixture.
