Total Time 1 hour 20 minutes
Servings: 8 people
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Layers
  • 1 box (5.1 oz) Graham cracker crust mix The crumb part only
  • 1 can (14 oz) Sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup Key lime juice Freshly squeezed is best
  • 1 container (8 oz) Frozen whipped topping Thawed
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) Instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 1/2 cups Cold milk
For Garnish
  • 1/2 cup Heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp Powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp Lime zest

Equipment

  • Large glass trifle bowl
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Prepare the graham cracker crumbs according to the package directions for a crust, but do not press into a pan. Set the crumbs aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and key lime juice until combined. Fold in half of the thawed whipped topping until smooth.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until the mixture thickens, about two minutes.
  4. Gently fold the remaining half of the whipped topping into the pudding mixture.
  5. Begin layering the trifle in your glass bowl. Start with a layer of the graham cracker crumbs.
  6. Top the crumbs with half of the key lime mixture. Follow this with half of the vanilla pudding mixture.
  7. Repeat the layers: crumbs, the remaining key lime mixture, and finally the remaining pudding mixture.
  8. Cover the trifle and chill in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes before serving.
  9. Before serving, prepare the garnish. Beat the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar together until soft peaks form. Top the trifle with the sweetened whipped cream and sprinkle the lime zest over the top.

Notes

You can use store-bought vanilla wafers or pound cake cubes instead of the graham cracker crust for a different texture.
